Carlingford Heritage Centre is the Trust’s flagship project. We have restored this charming church to become a focal point to record and promote the heritage of Carlingford town and to provide a versatile venue for community use /public hire for events. The church is originally a 13th century building which has been altered over the centuries but was an important site in the medieval fabric of Carlingford
A visit to Carlingford Heritage Centre is one of the many things to do in Carlingford. It houses a permanent exhibition of the history of the town in magnificent triptych display cabinets. Each triptych contains maps, illustrations and manuscripts telling the story of Carlingford from early settlement and the development of a vibrant medieval town by the Normans to more recent times. The exhibition makes a great starting point for a tour of the town of the many historic remains of Carlingford’s fascinating medieval past.
Carlingford Heritage Centre offers an annual programme of events featuring concerts, talks and exhibitions. Classical, traditional and contemporary artists play regularly in the venue as its fine acoustic and warm interiors provide an ideal venue for an intimate performance. It is also an atmospheric venue for recording and in recent times, the venue is now being used for artists to record and stream performance. See our Virtual Spring Talks.
Carlingford Heritage Centre is available to hire for a variety of events. We are a perfect venue for civil wedding ceremonies and naming ceremonies. We also provide the ideal venue for yoga weekends and health well-being workshops. We are suitable for concerts, creative workshops and book launches. With seating for up to 160, we are ideal for conferences and seminars. Carlingford offers a wonderful variety of accommodation, restaurants, catering and adventure activities
Our staff have a passionate interest in history and heritage of Carlingford and are happy to help you in your search for historic information or family history searches. They also regular daily guided tours of Carlingford Castle and the town from April to October.
