Carlingford Lough Heritage Trust is seeking a Heritage/Tourism  Project Manager to help promote heritage-led development and sustainable tourism in the medieval walled town of Carlingford and across the Cooley Peninsula.

The Trust is a community-based voluntary organisation: its Board of Directors, constituted as a Company Limited by Guarantee, operates a social enterprise providing heritage-related services to the community and to visitors.

The Board leads the work of the Trust across a number of areas, including:

  • Partnership with local businesses, community bodies and other stakeholders on

        heritage- led development and sustainable tourism and liaison with a range of public bodies

  • Supporting Fáilte Ireland’s steering group for Vision ‘31 and providing its secretariat services
  • Promoting its own heritage tours and projects and providing a platform for other

        projects through the Heritage Centre venue

  • Providing a venue for a range of cultural and community events from weddings to summer schools.

With 30 years of successful heritage work behind us, the Trust is ready to face new challenges of rapidly growing tourism and infrastructure that is feeling the strain. Working directly to the Board, our Heritage/Tourism Project Manager will be at the forefront of innovation and business development, building and developing relations with stakeholders and overseeing the development of relevant websites and a single, branded approach to use of social media.

The Trust is funded from several sources but is partly self-financing: the Heritage/Tourism Project Manager will be closely involved in product/activity development and income generation within the Board’s multi-annual business plan.

Our model of social enterprise with staff and volunteers working together requires close co-operation with our active, hands-on Board members. The Board appoints a Staff Liaison who will be the effective line manager of the Heritage/Tourism Project Manager and other staff. A flexible approach to working co-operatively with our small team will be essential.

Preference will be given to applicants with experience of and/or demonstrable skills in project development in the community and voluntary sector or a tourism-related area.

Our Heritage/Tourism Project Manager will need to communicate effectively with the Trust, the public, stakeholders and a wide range of public agencies. The Trust will want to see examples of effective communication.

This post is offered on a 39 hour per week basis.     Remuneration: €32,000.
