The County Museum, Dundalk has a collection of in excess of 65,000 objects comprising everything from the proverbial (Viking) needle to an anchor! ‘Some of my favourite things – Highlights from the collection is a personalized tour of the Museum with Curator Brian Walsh discussing some of his most favoured items from one of the country’s finest collecting institutions.
According to Mr. Walsh “the beauty of this museum is the very randomness of the collection, how it mirrors life and the human condition. The importance of these items lies in the manner in which they reveal the story of the time in which they were used. They hint at and evoke memories of previous generations, who experienced lives so far-removed from our own but at the same time prevailed. These items were used by our parents and grandparents and those who came before them, they endured and they provide the inspiration for us to do the same. The items illustrate the ever changing nature of life but provide a fascinating snapshot of a time long since gone but one that continues to be relevant.”
