100 Things to See in the Cooley Mountains

Our virtual talk ‘100 Things to See in the Cooley Mountains’ takes us on a wander through the hills in the company of Séamus Murphy, expert guide and active researcher of Cooley history and heritage. This is the 5th time Seamus is giving the talk as each time we have had an interest in excess of one hundred people, which is our limit on Zoom, so tune in early.

So, for all of you looking forward to a summer of hill-walking, avail of some top tips on how to read the landscape and its history. You’ll learn how to spot the Neolithic cornfields in Doolargy; discover where the Ballymascanlon Yeomanry hunted Franciscans and United Irishmen through Glenmore; learn of Lissachiggel fort where Queen Maeve’s men finally cornered the Brown Bull of Cooley, and be reminded that the last people to live in the Deserted Village near Grange were called Maguire.

We have a lot of places to see so hardened walk leaders should have their maps ready: Sheet OSNI 29 (Mournes) or OSI 36 (Louth).
